Sky News Journalism Apprenticeship

Sky News is bold, fast, and trusted by millions. We’re live 24/7, reporting from the heart of breaking stories across the UK and around the world. From politics and technology to culture and climate, our journalism makes an impact every single day.


As a Sky News Apprentice, you’ll learn from award-winning journalists, producers, and editors. You’ll discover how stories are found, verified, and shared across platforms — from our app and website to TikTok, Instagram, and TV.


You’ll spend your first few months studying for your NCTJ Diploma in Journalism, before joining our newsroom in Osterley, where you’ll work on live stories, pitch ideas, and gain experience across digital, audio, and broadcast journalism.

Right to work

You will have valid right to work in the UK by the programme start date (07/09/2026) and will remain valid for the full duration of the apprenticeship (2yrs) without requiring renewal or expiring during this time.

What you’ll do

You’ll start with five months of full-time training at PA Media Academy in central London, where you’ll learn the fundamentals of journalism including writing, media law, ethics, and how to tell great stories across platforms.


Then you’ll join the Sky News newsroom in Osterley, working alongside our digital, broadcast, and production teams. You’ll:

Research and pitch ideas for stories

Help produce live broadcasts and podcasts

Write, edit, and fact-check content for Sky News platforms

Capture and edit video for social and digital channels

Learn how stories are planned, verified, and published

Collaborate with teams across Sky News to create trusted, impactful journalism

What we’re looking for

We’re not expecting you to have journalism experience but we're looking for curiosity, commitment, and a genuine interest in the world around you. You’ll need:


  • You’ll have a minimum of five GCSEs A* - C (or equivalent grades 9-4), including English and Maths, or BTEC Level 2. And will have these by September 2026. 
  • To be 18 or older by September 2026
  • To have finished education and be ready for full-time work
  • To have lived in the UK or Republic of Ireland for at least 3 years

  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, open approach
