Job Description

Sky News is looking for a Junior OSINT Producer to join our award-winning Data & Forensics team. Using open-source intelligence (OSINT), data and digital investigative techniques, we source, verify and explain the facts behind the world's biggest news stories.

It's an exciting opportunity to work on some of the world's biggest stories, using OSINT to uncover, verify and explain the facts behind the news. The position will be based in Osterley. To be successful in this role you will need to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in OSINT or investigative journalism using OSINT tools.

The Data and Forensics team is a multi-skilled unit dedicated to providing transparent journalism from Sky News. We combine traditional reporting skills with advanced analysis of satellite images, social media and other open-source information. We gather, analyse and visualise data to tell data-driven stories. Through multimedia storytelling we aim to better explain the world while also showing how our journalism is done.

What you'll do:

  • Find, verify and source UGC from a wide range of social media platforms.
  • Use OSINT techniques to verify locations, events, imagery and video.
  • Identify, trace and verify people, organisations using open-source information.
  • Develop original story ideas using OSINT, data and digital investigative techniques.
  • Work with colleagues across Data & Forensics and the wider newsroom to produce compelling, video-first journalism for digital, social and TV platforms.
  • Maintain a good knowledge of current news stories and have suggestions for coverage.

What you'll bring:

  • Demonstrable OSINT and verification skills, with examples of how you've used open-source techniques to verify information or investigate stories.
  • Some newsroom or journalism experience.
  • An understanding of geolocation, social media verification and digital investigative techniques.
  • Strong research skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a quick-paced environment with tight deadlines
  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to work across editorial teams.
