Want to do the best work of your life? Make your mark at Europe’s leading entertainment brand. Our people make Sky a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

This senior editorial role will put you at the sharp end of Sky News journalism, commissioning and delivering stories and managing dynamic overnight news coverage across Sky’s web and app. There will be team management responsibilities across the digital team.

As an overnight Assistant Editor on the Mobile team, you will be part of a premium, video-first, digitally focused newsroom. You will work with a dedicated overnight reporter as well as with the wider newsroom on stories originating from across the world. Crucially you will make sure the web and app look ready for the morning’s peak traffic. Your keen eye for a story and high standards of journalism will be key in helping engage and grow our digital audiences.

Sky News is at the front of the UK and world news – and you will be at the heart of this operation.

What you’ll do:

  • Make key editorial decisions and drive overnight coverage on web and app
  • Liaise with the wider newsroom to set the early morning’s agenda and move stories forward
  • Commission stories, blogs and analysis to our digital journalist and the wider newsrooms, including TV correspondents
  • Manage and develop journalists
  • Be across the wider Sky News strategy and audience development vision to deliver on the company’s priorities
  • Uphold Sky News’ standards of accuracy

What you’ll bring:

  • Sharp editorial judgement
  • Experience handling big breaking news scenarios and keeping cool under pressure
  • Legal knowledge and best-practice experience to critique and sign-off sensitive journalism
  • The agility to multi-task and ability to identify priorities
  • Significant newsroom and management experience
  • The flexibility to adjust your work patterns when events require
  • Some subbing experience and basic video skills a plus!
