About this programme

Want to do the best work of your life? Do you want to help invent the tech your friends and family use every day? Our products including Sky Q, Sky Glass and broadband routers are in more than one in every two homes in the UK, and you are sure to have used them.

Join our Hardware intern programme and you’ll spend 8 weeks working on the kind of exciting innovative projects you just don’t find anywhere else. Your main focus will be to support the lead engineers of the project or research teams.

You’ll have the opportunity to contribute to research projects which could influence the direction of future product design and technologies used in our products. Collaborate with different teams, all while discovering first-hand how we bring millions of people the entertainment they know and love.

No matter what you shine at you’ll be immersed in a diverse team of engineers helping you focus on what you do best whilst contributing to deliver new and exciting products. Impress us, and we may well offer you a full-time position once you graduate.

What you’ll be doing

  • Learning the Sky Business, within that, learning what we do and how we do it at Sky Labs Brentwood & Aalborg, Denmark. Learn it so you can make it better.
  • Electronic circuit design, schematic layout and PCB design.
  • Hardware and software bring up on new designs, followed by test and qualification using the latest instrumentation available in industry.
  • Software and driver development for test automation and new product design bring-up.
  • Working with the latest communication technologies such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Zigbee with an opportunity to delve into the world of RF electronics.
  • Learning to support mass production manufacture and design of production line test-automation.

What we’re looking for

There’s two types of requirements for this programme.

Education: You’re in the penultimate year of your degree. The degree can be in any engineering or related field.

Other skills you may have include:

  • A passion for technology
  • Staying up to date with the latest technology developments
  • A can-do attitude and the desire to contribute into this very dynamic and fast moving market sector
  • Effective collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral

  • Prep Hub

    This optional step will help you prepare for our application process — and you can access it before you’ve even applied.

  • Application

    Time to submit your application on our system. We’ll be asking for your personal details, academic information and everything else that you think would be relevant such as work experience. That’s all there is to it.

    If we need to make adjustments to make you feel more comfortable at any stage, please let us know when you apply — we’ll be in touch to discuss.

  • Digital Assessment

    Once your application is in, we’ll ask you to complete our immersive digital assessment, which will test behavioural strengths and motivation for the role.

    We understand that you might want to utilise AI to support your preparation for taking the assessments – understanding Sky etc. But we ask that you complete the assessments themselves without the assistance of AI.

  • Assessment Centre

    For the final assessment stage, we’ll invite you to our assessment centre. You’ll get the opportunity to impress us in person and get a feel for what it’s really like to work at Sky.

    The day could include an individual interview, group discussion or individual exercise. We’ll give you plenty of notice and let you know how best to prepare for the day.

    During my time as an intern, I worked in a small group given an R and D project to take ownership of, allowing us to take it from initial idea to full scale prototype. This led us to present our work to the group CEO and other execs, which has now taken me into a full time job.
