I’m Sev, a React Native Developer in the Digital Technology department, working on the My Sky App (MSA). I joined last August and am based in Osterley, although the rest of my team is in Leeds. This means that I go up to Leeds roughly once a month to see the team, attend meetings and socials happening.

As a Developer, my role is to contribute to coding any new feature in the app, fixing bugs and improving the app.

Within MSA, I am part of the Bumblebee squad. We are about 15 bees; including developers, testers, business analyst, product owner and scrum master. We all contribute to making the app bigger and better, and release about every 2 weeks new updates.

The app enables customers to manage their Sky or mobile account, billing, sign up to loyalty programs and more. It’s important for us to make the app as smooth as possible. We aim to show customer content that applies to them specifically, by making it a tailored experience

Describe a project, or career highlight where you were able to make a difference.

I am currently working on Project Hello, which aims to drive a step change in Mobile upsell through the App. This will allow users to have more insight into what Sky Mobile has to offer, in a fun and insightful way.

This has been an enjoyable journey, as it has brought us closer as a team with lots of collaboration and brain storming sessions. The development is ongoing, but we are looking forward to receiving customer feedback and make the app journey smooth and captivating for users.

At Sky we’re always challenging ourselves to deliver the next big thing. Describe what that’s like and why it’s exciting.

Being in an environment where innovative ideas are continuously shared is great. You feel a buzz from being part of it and seeing how excited everyone else around you is.

There is a sense of pride that comes with it. I work on the My Sky App, for which its V3 recently launched a few months ago. The revamp of the app was done with great detail, and hard work.

We all supported each other in reaching the deadline, and cheered on until we pushed the button. We all supported each other in getting this great product out.

The feeling of getting to the finish line through everyone’s joint effort is a great feeling. And the celebrating was worth it all

How is Sky an inclusive place to work where you can be yourself?

I’ve felt really welcome since joining Sky. Everyone is very friendly, we sometimes do things outside of work. We get budget for socials and squad lunches, which are great because they enable me to connect with the wider tribe and get to know people outside virtual meetings.

Everyone’s treated the same, regardless of seniority, which is really important for me as it enables me to upskill.

As a female developer it can be quite daunting joining a new company, but Sky has opened its arms to me. There are a lot of virtual communities, including mental health slack channels. These are comforting for when you’re having a tough time.
