I work as a Senior Test Engineer within Global Digital Platforms, responsible for driving the quality, reliability, and performance of the Sky Sports Mobile App used across UK, Germany, and Italy.
My role sits at the heart of delivery — collaborating closely with Developers, Product Leads, and fellow Test Engineers to build confidence in every release. As part of a cross-functional Engineering team, I help shape our testing strategy, champion automation, and drive continuous improvement throughout the development lifecycle.
This includes shaping test strategies, building and maintaining automated test suites, investigating complex defects, and ensuring high‑quality releases that meet Sky’s technical and customer‑centric standards.
I work alongside talented Engineers, and together we embed a quality-first, shift left mindset in everything we deliver. Our team culture encourages ownership, collaboration, and curiosity — whether we’re exploring new tooling, enhancing our frameworks, or feeding into the wider engineering community at Sky.
What is it that you love most about your career in Tech, Product & Data at Sky?
What I enjoy most about working in Tech at Sky is the mix of problem solving, teamwork, and the chance to make a real difference in the products people including myself use every day.
In what ways do you feel Sky best shows up in the Tech, Product & Data industries?
Sky stands out because we focus on action and continuous improvement, not just discussion.
Whether it’s trying out new tools, utilising AI, driving automation, releasing faster, or experimenting with better ways of working, there’s always a genuine effort to improve rather than sticking to the old way of doing things.
What has been a career highlight/project for you that allowed you to make a difference?
A big highlight for me has been working on some huge projects over the years — everything from large-scale redesigns to moving from older codebases onto our global platform codebase which can handle multiple territories.
These projects are challenging, but they’re also where the impact of my work is most visible — improving quality, processes, and customer experience across multiple territories
More recently, I’ve been involved in re‑platforming our streaming, identity, and discovery services, which has been significant not just for us at Sky but across Comcast too.
Knowing that the work we’re doing is helping to modernise and strengthen platforms used by millions of customers globally is something I’m genuinely proud of. And on a personal level, working on products like the Sky Sports app across the UK, Germany, and Italy has been a real bonus.
These projects are challenging, but they’re also where the impact of my work is most visible — improving stability, scalability, and customer experience across multiple territories. Seeing the improvements land for customers — and knowing I played a part in that experience — makes it all feel worthwhile.
What about your role makes you feel excited, ambitious and inspired?
No two days are the same. I’m constantly exploring new challenges, learning new technologies, driving shift left testing practices, writing automation tests, or just asking the right questions early so I can spot issues before they become problems.
How would you describe the inclusive environment at Sky?
I think Sky does a good job of creating an inclusive environment where people feel comfortable being themselves. Leadership and teams are supportive and open, and you can speak up, share ideas, and feel heard.
The culture is very collaborative, which makes a meaningful difference day to day. Hybrid working has also helped with work-life balance — there’s a good level of trust, and I feel like I'm able to do my best work without sacrificing personal time. It’s nice having that flexibility without losing the team feel.
In your role, what are the best perks and benefits at Sky?
The best perks are the simple ones that many people don’t get — the strong work‑life balance and the flexibility to manage personal commitments. The practical benefits matter too, like access to test devices when we need them and being able to work on a new Mac.
The real perk is the flexibility and trust the role provides. There’s no micromanagement, and you’re given the space to just get on with your work in the way that suits you best.
Of course, the free Sky TV is a nice bonus, and the salaries are competitive, but the thing that really stands out is working on products used by millions of people. As a huge sports fan, working on a product I genuinely use and enjoy is a real privilege.
