Providing Personalisation

I’m a Technical Analyst in the Content Discovery department. We provide personalisation and recommendation services for Sky, as well as NOW, Peacock and SkyShowtime.

This enables customers to get access to shows similar to what they have already watched, or based on their general taste.

As a Technical Analyst, my job is to ensure all requirements are clear and agreed before bringing new projects to the Software Development teams. I work within those teams to estimate and plan the development work.

In other words, I am the bridge between the business and the tech teams!

Describe a project, or career highlight where you were able to make a difference. This could be for our customers, wider society, or the planet.

Outside of my responsibilities as Technical Analyst, I run a newsletter for our department and drive various mental health initiatives.

I’m also a member of our company wide TECHWomen committee and a co-founder of Career Clinic, an event series which focuses on providing women in technology with tools and tips for coping with common challenges in their careers.

Through all these initiatives, I am able to connect and provide support for our workplace community. It’s incredibly rewarding, as making a difference is my main motivator at work.

At Sky we're always challenging ourselves to deliver the next big thing. Describe what that's like and why it's exciting- give an example.

It’s always exciting to be a part of something global! A recent highlight for me was the launch of SkyShowtime. It allowed my friends and family in Scandinavia to access and enjoy the content and services I work with.

How is Sky an inclusive place to work where you can be yourself?

One of the biggest benefits I’ve found at Sky is the opportunity you have to build a wide network across different areas and departments.

I joined Sky through the Get Into Tech programme, which provides a career change opportunity for women in technical roles.

Through the Software Engineering Academy, I made long-lasting friendships. Over the last 5 years, I’ve worked in different teams and have had the opportunity to try out new roles. This allowed me to change departments in a safe way, without leaving my employment, which is great for personal growth. That way, I’ve been able to find a role that fits me, rather than make myself fit a role.

For my next challenge, I am now about to go on maternity leave, for which Sky provides great support without pressure for me to return too soon.
