"What's cool about these projects is seeing the results of our work out in the real world..."

Tell us about your role, your team, and the general projects/products you work with.

I work in Change Delivery, specifically Project Management and Analysis. When I joined in September 2023, I worked as a Business Analyst on the Change Delivery Graduate Scheme.

Since then, I've gained additional experience in a project management role, and my work has encouraged me to flex between the two main roles that make up our team. Our department works on projects across all of Sky's products, including TV, Broadband and Mobile.

My focus so far has been on TV, and I've had the opportunity to work on two important projects. The first of these was the launch of Sky Sports+, which was an exciting proposition as it was pretty high-profile. As a result, this project drew a lot of interest from executives, the public and the media. My second project has been introducing the Sky Sports package to TV Essentials, a pack we created for customers facing financial difficulty.

On this project, my line manager gave me the opportunity to take responsibility and lead, which has been great for my development. On each of these projects, I've worked with a huge range of stakeholders, from technical teams to Commercial, in addition to representing the needs of our customers and agents.

What is it that you love most about your role?

What I love most about my role is the opportunity to work with such a wide range of teams and individuals.

Sky is a huge company, so there's always another team to discover, and people are always happy to explain more about their roles. I worked on each project over several months, which allowed me to get to know many of my stakeholders well. We have since stayed in touch, talking regularly and forming good relationships. Things don't always go as planned, and we sometimes face challenges in our work. But, these relationships and the morale they create are important for keeping motivated and resilient. It's common to stay in touch with our stakeholders and work with them again, so we built a network quite quickly. This is an interesting aspect of the role as we learn so much about other business areas and get exposed to teams where we could take on roles in the future.

Describe a project or career highlight at Sky where you were able to make a difference.

At the moment, I'm working with the Early Careers team to raise awareness about Sky's internship, apprenticeship, and graduate programmes.

While this is outside my role as an Associate Change Manager, I am passionate about it and have enjoyed pursuing it. Last year, I hosted a stand at a careers fair, and this year, we plan to reach out to more schools, colleges and universities to encourage their students to explore roles at Sky. After I completed my Masters Degree in Historical Studies, I wasn't initially aware that an opportunity like this would be available to me. Therefore, I want to ensure we're getting the message out there that a range of skills can be beneficial when you apply for a role with Sky. After the last careers fair I attended, I felt proud that we had opened doors for young people and provided them with a path they may not have considered. Going forward, I'm looking forward to continuing this work.

At Sky, we’re always challenging ourselves to deliver the next big thing. Describe what that’s like and why it’s exciting.

It's exciting coming into work and hearing about the new products and packages we're looking to offer customers. In recent months, this has included products such as Sky Glass Gen 2 and enhancing packages like Sky Sports+. What's cool about these projects is seeing the results of our work out in the real world, whether that's on social media, in advertisements or sponsorships.

We get to see our projects go from being presented as initial ideas to seeing all the pieces come to life in big-scale launches. We also get to watch the reactions of customers and our agents in real-time, understand how well these new products or packages are being received and what we can do to make them even better. The team is great at recognising each other's successes and celebrating work well done, so there's a nice feeling of achievement.

How is Sky an inclusive place to work where you can be yourself?

When I started, everyone was welcoming and friendly, making it easy to integrate into the team. We have regular team meetings and always have access to our line managers if we need support. Sky has networks supporting various causes such as Diversity and Inclusion, Women in Sky, Parents and Carers at Sky, and more. Members often deliver sessions for us at Sky, which have covered a range of topics, including mental health and neurodiversity.

This has helped to open conversations in the team about important issues and highlight resources for support. Our hybrid working model also contributes to our overall well-being, as we work two days in the office and three from home. This means we can see our teams regularly and build good relationships while also benefiting from not having to commute five days a week. Even on working-from-home days, speaking with your team regularly is normal, so you're always getting that sense of social interaction.
