I work for Sky Sports - building better sports experience's for our sports fans, ensuring we maximise the value of their sports subscription.
In my time we have expanded our recap experience, allowing users to catch up on any moment in most EFL football matches, as well as the Champions League in Italy and Germany. Our team has also delivered a new side panel app giving users access to additional sports experiences while they watch football, tennis or F1.
Now we are looking at how we make the Sports destination page the most unique place to find the sports you love, whether its showing live data related to the game that’s on, showing content about your favourite team, or simply making it easy to browse all of the amazing sports we have on during a busy weekend.
I love working with lots of different people - all who have unique personalities and valuable insights into how we shape the future of sports at Sky.
Every day I work with engineers to solve complex challenges with brilliant innovation, I design exciting ideas and features with the design and creative teams based on real feedback we get from our users, and I get to see first-hand how we bring it all together on our Sky products alongside our operational team.
I love collaborating with these teams and delivering real products live on screen that help elevate the brand of Sky.
Sky alongside Comcast is at the forefront of innovating in the entertainment space. Stream & Glass are the best-in-class aggregators of content which is vital in an increasingly fractured entertainment market.
We have put our customers first by taking a content first approach, highlighting other broadcaster content where relevant and ensuring our fans have access to just about every program, sport and app in the TV entertainment. Moreover, we are increasingly invested in making journeys to content intuitive and frictionless, to ensure our customers aren't drowned by the vast array of content we have available.
What has been a career highlight/project for you that allowed you to make a difference?
I recently delivered some new accessibility features to our sports app, ensuring we supported High Contrast and Voice Guidance. This meant Sports fans, regardless of accessibility needs, could access our app and enjoy all the sports we had to offer. Not only did we deliver that in the UK, but also in Italy and Germany.
What about your role makes you feel excited, ambitious and inspired?
We are now increasingly looking at Sports experiences, not just at Sky, but across Comcast's portfolio of entertainment systems.
Whether that be Rogers in North America or Foxtel in Australia - we are now creating aggregatable sports experiences that we can build for sports fans not just in the UK but literally across the world.
How would you describe the inclusive environment at Sky?
Sky has always allowed its employees to balance work and life in a healthy productive way. As someone who loves to run, swim and cycle - when I was training for a 70.3 Ironman - I was able to balance the demands of training alongside the demand of my job.
Luckily, with an onsite gym, it was easy to do a lunch session – also, being so close to Osterley Park made it easy to go for a run in the summer. Sky has been a great place to feel challenged by the job, but to make space for life outside of work as well.
In your role, what are the best perks and benefits at Sky?
I get to make experiences for Sports fans, which is the best job I think I could have. Not only that, but Sky has such prominence in the sports market, and Comcast's commitment to sports, makes it the place to be in Sky.
This is both in terms of creating innovative sports experiences, but also the volume of sports we get to work with. It gives us an endless amount of content to create experiences for.
