My role is to lead and support the team to ensure they are consistently in the strongest possible position to deliver an excellent customer experience and achieve weekly sales targets across key products, including Sky Glass, Sky Stream, Sky Mobile, Sky Broadband and additional propositions.
A core part of my responsibility is coaching and developing advisors - making sure they are set up correctly, confident in their role, and equipped to perform at their best.
Alongside this, I take responsibility for the effective day‑to‑day operational running of the shop. This includes completing weekly stock checks, testing fire and panic alarms, and ensuring all health and safety standards are met so that we maintain a safe, compliant, and well‑run workplace.
What is it that you love most about your career in Retail at Sky?
What I value most about my role is the variety it offers - no two days are the same, and each presents new challenges and situations. I also appreciate being recognised for my contribution through competitive pay and the benefits that come with working for Sky.
I have been with Sky for 18 years, having started in the contact centre where I worked across multiple departments, before moving into Retail as a Sales Advisor. I am now stepping into a leadership role, currently running our shop while completing the ‘Stepping Stones’ programme.
Having all Sky products in my home, and using them daily, helps me feel genuinely connected to Sky’s content and services. This first-hand experience enables me to speak confidently and authentically with customers about the products, making it easier to clearly communicate and sell the value that Sky has to offer.
What has been a career highlight/project for you that allowed you to make a difference?
The volunteering days that Sky offers are a fantastic initiative and provide a meaningful opportunity to give back to the local community. I previously took part in a volunteering day at a school in Fife, where the outdoor area required significant improvement.
Our team cleared overgrown land, removed weeds, and built a shed to store children’s play equipment. As a result, the school gained a safer and more spacious environment for children to play. It was incredibly rewarding to be part of such a positive outcome, and it was especially motivating to know that Sky actively supports and encourages this type of community engagement during working hours.
What about your role makes you feel excited, ambitious and inspired?
Being given the opportunity to step up and run the retail shop was extremely exciting, as it represented clear progression in my career.
Throughout this experience, I have learned something new every day - both about myself and about the responsibilities of management, gaining valuable insight into the wide range of skills and requirements involved in leading a team.
How would you describe the inclusive environment at Sky?
I believe Sky has always been a highly inclusive employer. Throughout my time with the company, I have worked alongside colleagues from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds. I have also seen first-hand how strongly Sky values employee wellbeing and work/life balance.
I have personally been through the flexible working process and found it to be fair, supportive, and thoughtfully managed.
In your role, what are the best perks and benefits at Sky?
For me, the free Sky package is one of the most significant benefits. It not only helps us better understand and confidently sell the products to our customers, but also provides great entertainment at home.
In addition, the annual Currys voucher is a benefit I particularly value, as it is extremely helpful when making larger purchases.
