Tell us about your role, your team, and the general projects/products you work with.

I’m the Senior Product Manager for the OTT Content Management System (CMS), which supports many propositions globally; including NOW / WOW, Peacock and Sky Showtime.

Our main users are the editorial teams. They use our CMS for many things including creating highlight rails for showcase content, editing the homepage and making new collections.

I own the CMS roadmap, so I determine the priorities of features to deliver, provide updates to stakeholders, and help shape the strategy for the type of work we want to develop in the future.

I have analysts in my team to support with this by defining feature requirements, and we work closely with developers to make this happen! I previously was a Project Manager within Sky which provided a great foundation for moving into this role.

Describe a project, or career highlight where you were able to make a difference.

A career highlight was going to New York in December 2022 to meet with our NBCU colleagues. We had a series of in-person workshops to discuss the future strategy of our CMS, and what improvements we can make as the number of users continues to grow as we continue to support more propositions and content.

It was exciting to discuss the features we want to deliver to create a personalised experience for our customers.

Meeting up with our transatlantic colleagues brought home the sheer size of the work we’re delivering for our users. It was great to meet up in person and brainstorm.

At Sky we’re always challenging ourselves to deliver the next big thing. Describe what that’s like and why it’s exciting?

Working for Sky is exciting and fast paced. I’ve had the opportunity to work as part of several different teams, deliver countless features to customers on a huge range of topics & propositions. This has included channel launches, advertising, legal regulations, huge new propositions such as Sky Showtime, editorial requests and merchandising experiments – to name a few!

Everything can change very quickly, but that is what working in a tech and agile environment is about. No two days are ever the same.

Ensuring we can get our customers to the content they want to watch is a huge priority for us. It’s rewarding to see the collections or homepage takeovers you have helped to develop go live for our customers; especially when it’s for flagship content such as House of the Dragon or The Last of Us.

How is Sky an inclusive place to work where you can be yourself?

I feel very fortunate to be in an environment where I am empowered and trusted to run with ideas and take on a great deal of responsibility, all whilst having the backing of a supportive team around me.

I joined Sky in 2019 and actually came from a finance background, and so it means even more that I am encouraged to progress my career within Technology.

Not being from your typical tech background of having a computer science degree or developer experience can sound overwhelming, especially when surrounded by technical experts. The collaborative nature at Sky means we’re all aligned in what we want to achieve, and all have our own skills to offer.

It’s amazing how people are willing to take the time to explain things to you, but also appreciate you being the one with a different view point or bringing different experiences. I have great role models to look up to as well who support me in this, and who are paving the way for women and people from non-tech backgrounds.
