I work as a Retail Sales Advisor at Sky, where my role focuses on understanding customers’ needs and helping them find the right products and services for their homes.
I’m part of a supportive and driven team that works closely together to deliver a positive experience in store and support each other where needed. Each day is different; from speaking with new customers, to building relationships with returning ones.
Since joining, I’ve grown in confidence and performance. I’ve developed a real passion for connecting with people, and delivering solutions that genuinely make a difference.
What is it that you love most about your career in Retail at Sky?
What I love most about my career in retail at Sky is how much it has helped me grow both personally and professionally. I joined Sky after moving to the UK from Ukraine due to the ongoing unrest, so I was stepping into a completely new environment at a difficult time in my life.
Working at Sky gave me structure, purpose, and the chance to rebuild my confidence. I genuinely feel excited to come to work each day as no two days are the same. I enjoy connecting with customers and being part of a supportive team that motivates me to keep improving and pushing myself further.
I’ve had the opportunity to be a part of so many exciting campaigns, attend showcases and contribute to meaningful projects - such as fundraising and community initiatives. It’s rewarding to be a part of something that makes a real difference alongside the great benefits and opportunities afforded to us at Sky.
I feel genuinely connected to Sky’s content and products when speaking to customers in store because they are relevant, well-known and often a part of customer’s everyday lives. Many conversations naturally start with what customers already enjoy, from Sky TV and streaming apps to broadband reliability or mobile value - which makes it easy to build rapport and have meaningful relatable discussions.
Sky’s products are easy to connect with because they solve real customer needs such as entertainment, connectivity and convenience. I often link products with how customers will actually use them at home; whether it’s helping someone choose a package for their favourite shows or finding the right solution for their home broadband.
The conversations feel personal and meaningful. I take time to understand what matters to each customer, which makes it easier to recommend something that truly fits their lifestyle.
Working in retail also makes me feel like a brand ambassador for Sky. I try my best to represent our values at Sky by being honest, approachable and customer-first in every interaction; sharing enthusiasm for Sky’s content and explaining products in a simple transparent way, which helps the customer feel excited and reassured about the decision.
Overall, I feel strongly connected to Sky’s content and products because I can see the real positive impact they have on customers.
What has been a career highlight/project for you that allowed you to make a difference?
One of my biggest career highlights has been getting involved in projects that go beyond day-to-day retail, and make a real difference in the community.
I’ve had the opportunity to create awareness and engage customers in meaningful initiatives; from encouraging children to write letters to Santa during the Christmas season where Sky donated to children with special needs, to supporting Veterans Day by welcoming Veterans into our store for tea, cake and conversation - which brought the team together for a meaningful cause.
Being able to bring people together in these moments feel incredibly rewarding, and has made me feel like I’m making a genuine difference in my own little way. Experiences like this have made my role feel more purposeful and reinforced how retail at Sky can create real change.
What about your role makes you feel excited, ambitious and inspired?
What excites and inspires me most about my role is the constant opportunity to grow and challenge myself both professionally and personally.
Retail is fast-paced, customer-focused and never static. That creates an environment where learning and improvement are part of everyday work rather than something occasional. I’ve been able to build my confidence, develop my skills, and push myself to achieve more than I initially thought possible.
I feel particularly motivated by the opportunity for progression. Being able to develop my skills, take on more responsibility, and work towards the next step in my career gives me a strong sense of ambition. Knowing that effort, consistency and performance can lead to new challenges and advancement, encourages me to continue to raise my standards and push myself further.
Collaboration is another key source of inspiration for me. Working closely with colleagues and my manager allows me to learn from different experiences, share ideas and contribute to a supportive team culture. I enjoy being part of a team where we challenge and motivate each other to perform better, deliver great customer experiences, and achieve shared goals.
I’m also inspired by the scope for innovation in my role, whether that’s adapting my sales approach to different customers, finding better ways to solve problems or embracing new processes and tools. The fact that there’s always room to improve how we work and how we serve customers creates that “Never Stand Still” feeling and keeps the role encouraging and meaningful.
Overall, what excites me most is knowing that my role isn’t just about today’s performance - but about continuous development, contribution and building towards something bigger over time.
How would you describe the inclusive environment at Sky?
From my personal experience, Sky is genuinely an inclusive place to work - where people are encouraged to be themselves and are respected for who they are. Inclusion isn’t treated as a buzzword but it is something that I see reflected in leadership behaviours, team interactions and the wider company culture on a daily basis.
Leadership and management at Sky play a key role in creating a safe and welcoming environment. My managers are approachable, supportive and open to feedback which makes it easier to speak up, share ideas and ask for support when needed. I feel listened to and valued, and I feel like my opinions and input matter, rather than just being ‘managed’.
As a female employee, especially coming into a new work environment, I particularly feel supported and included. Women in Sky are treated with respect, given equal opportunities to grow, contribute and progress, and their voices are taken seriously. There’s a genuine sense that gender does not limit potential, confidence, or leadership capability at Sky. This creates a workplace where female colleagues can feel empowered, recognised and confident in their roles.
The team culture is built on respect and collaboration. Everyone’s contribution matters, and differences in background, perspective, or experience are welcome rather than challenged. This makes it easier to work together, support one another, and build trust across the team.
There’s a real sense of teamwork, where people look out for each other and celebrate each other’s success.
Sky’s employee networks and inclusion initiatives reinforce a sense of belonging. These networks help raise awareness celebrate diversity and create safe spaces where people, especially how underrepresented voices can be heard and supported. Seeing women represented and championed through these initiatives sends a strong message that inclusion is important and actively supported by the business.
Overall, Sky is a place where inclusion is lived and felt, not just spoken about. It’s an environment where everyone feels welcome, respected and encouraged to grow and where everyone is supported to succeed as their authentic selves.
In your role, what are the best perks and benefits at Sky?
Honestly, the perks and benefits at Sky are next-level, it sometimes feels unreal. First of all, there’s the obvious one; full access to the beautiful world of Sky TV. All the best packages, all the content, all the time - for free!
And on top of that, we get generous discounts across all Sky services too, so my living room is basically sponsored by Sky at this point!
Beyond the TV magic, Sky really looks after its people. There are healthcare benefits, financial coaching, and support systems that actually make you feel valued, not just emailed about.
And then there are the incentives - genuinely one of the best motivations to push through a long shift. There always seems to be something running; competitions, rewards or surprise giveaways that keep things exciting. I’ve personally been lucky enough to win an air fryer, a brand-new Sky Glass TV, and vouchers that covered weeks of grocery shopping, which felt like winning the lottery, just with less champagne and more meal deals.
The list honestly feels endless and that’s what makes it such a rewarding place to work.
