12 years on, Anthony reflects on what’s made his career in Home Service so rewarding.
“Working here isn’t just a job, it’s a career, and I see myself here for many more years”
Name: Anthony McKnight
Job title: Home Service Engineer
What area of Sky do you work in and what do you do on a daily basis? I work within our Home Service department as an Engineer, installing and servicing Sky for our customers.
I normally start work at about 7/7:30am with a stock pick up, and then start my first job at about 8am. Each job is different; I could be installing a dish, doing a service or running cables. I usually spend about an hour with each customer.
One of my favourite parts of my role is when I’ve completed an installation & I showcase the product to the customer, and answer any of their questions about how it all works. I also like that my role is all about communication and building networks with different departments.
How did you get into your role? I was doing a similar role at a different company and while working my colleague had his telephone interview with Sky. At the end of his interview he asked if they had anymore positions available, and here I am 12 years later loving my career here.
How have you made a difference in your role / what’s been your proudest moment working here? I love all things technology and I’m a self-taught tech geek. When SkyQ was launched I enjoyed helping people with their tech questions so I was asked to do it officially. This was an amazing experience for me as I was able to make a difference for our customers, helping them to resolve any issues they were facing – I’m still enjoying doing it today.
What surprised you most about your role? How my role has evolved and developed since I joined 12 years ago. The level of support that’s offered is exceptional – no matter how big or small the issue is I know someone will be able to help, or that I’ll have the tools I need. Working here isn’t just a job, it’s a career, and I see myself here for many more years.
Describe your work/life balance: I love my rota, its ideal for me.
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? There are so many opportunities to develop and progress here but it isn’t handed to you on a plate, you’ve got to work hard and stay focused.
Your top application tip for people applying now: Working here is all about our customers and offering a great service. I’d say be yourself, share your ideas and passion.
An interesting fact no one else knows about you: I won two VIP tickets to see Anthony Joshua become the world champion. I’m also the proud owner of a pair of signed boxing gloves.
