Current Sky team - International OTT (Joined the graduate programme in 2014)

What’s a typical day in your current role?

My responsibility is focused on strategy, our proposition, and providing insights to inform the wider team. A day might involve checking the key news outlets for important market news coming from Spain and sending any relevant info to team members. I may have a project to define what our strategy should be for tiering our proposition, in which case I’ll gather research and input it into a clear and concise powerpoint deck.

We also want to survey our customers to help us understand what they want from the product and I’m setting up surveys to gather this info. I’m also in charge of apps on our service and may have to have a call with a prospective new app partner to discuss a potential partnership, and then engage with Roku to ensure their app is published on our box in time for launch. The role is diverse, encompassing proposition strategy, insight and commercial responsibilities.

What’s the work/life balance at Sky like?

Work/life balance tends to be good. I rarely have to stay too late or work unsociable hours. I like to enjoy the use of the gym either at lunch time or after work. When I was on the Marketing graduate programme I received study leave when studying for the CIM which really helped.

If I have a need to work at home, this is almost always accepted.

What’s the most enjoyable thing about your role and what surprised you most?

The opportunity to work in an international team with people from lots of different cultures, the opportunity to travel and the knowledge that you’re working towards launching a new product in a brand new market. What surprised me is the diversity of the role. Due to the start-up nature of the team I’m in, I often have to work on projects that might not necessarily be linked to my job title but it keeps each day interesting.

Application top tips

I made sure my answers to the application questions were interesting, passionate, tailored to me but relevant to Sky and the industry I was looking to work within. Sky is a challenging, innovative and fast paced environment. Be prepared there will be some pressure, high expectations and things constantly change and evolve. If you can and are willing to adapt then you’ll be able to thrive.
