Oliver, Software Developer Apprentice shares his experience representing us at Keighley college careers fair
“One of the great things about working here is I get the opportunity’s to speak to other young people about careers.”
I’m an Apprentice Software Developer at Leeds Dock. I’ve been at Sky for about 8 months now and recently rolled off the Software Engineering Academy into my Delivery team.
One of the great things about working here is I get the opportunity to speak to other young people about careers here. I recently visited Keighley college for a careers fair with our team in Leeds. It was awesome to speak to students and find out what questions and misconceptions they had about Apprenticeships, as well as sharing the positions we offer here. I feel very fortunate that I was able to share my stories and challenges with them first hand.
We had the chance to talk to students about our new offices at Leeds Dock, which they were really impressed with. I also shared information about our Software Engineering Academy and what it’s like to be an Apprentice; as well as giving hints and tips for the application process. One thing I learnt was that students weren’t really aware what a Software Developer does, so it was great to tell them a little bit more about the role.
One of my favorite things about doing these events is meeting people and hearing their stories. I find it really interesting to hear what people have been up to. I think it’s really important that we continue to run these events as it’s great to share our experiences of working here and answer their questions face to face.
I really enjoyed representing Sky at the fair and hope the students I spoke to will consider a future here!
