Sky News - Osterley

About the programme

Sky News has built its reputation on being first for bringing the very best news and analysis to our viewers on television and our users on mobile and social media. We have won many prestigious awards for our journalism and our coverage of some of the biggest news stories of recent times. We have also been named News Channel of the Year 10 times by the Royal Television Society.

We began as the UK’s first 24-hour television news channel and now we are a multi-platform news operation delivering content to smartphones, web, tablets, social media platforms and commercial radio stations – as well as on television.

Duration: 2 weeks

Location: Osterley, West London

Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years old or over
  • You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and passion for news and current affairs.
  • We expect you to have some experience in the field of journalism and be able to demonstrate this. (This can include college journalism, freelancing, voluntary work, hospital radio, work experience, etc.)
  • You should have an understanding of Sky News’ multi-platform operation.

Your responsibilities

This is your chance to spend time at the heart of the most exciting news organisation in the country and experience what it’s like to work in a fast-paced news environment alongside our award-winning team of journalists. 

Your skills

  • You must be able to demonstrate knowledge and passion for news and current affairs.
  • We expect you to have some experience in the field of journalism and be able to demonstrate this. (This can include college journalism, freelancing, voluntary work, hospital radio, work experience, etc.)
  • You should have an understanding of Sky News’ multi-platform operation

Our work experience lasts for two weeks. Anyone on work experience receives £15 per day to cover travel expenses and food but candidates are expected to arrange their own transport and accommodation in London.

Sky Sports - Osterley

Please note this opportunity is production based as opposed to journalistic. If you are interested in journalism, we recommend you apply to Sky Sports News or Sky News work experience.

Whether it’s Premier League football, Test cricket, F1, Netball Superleague, The Ryder Cup or Majors golf, Sky Sports is the home of live sport. We aim to entertain, excite and inform our viewers with our award-winning and creative coverage of live sport from around the world across all of our platforms. We see teams playing on-screen and love to mirror that team spirit behind the scenes.

Duration: 5 days

Please note that some work experience opportunities will be Monday – Friday, others will happen across the weekends and evenings when we’re producing live content.

Your responsibilities
Work experience in Sky Sports offers you the chance to see what happens behind the scenes and learn about the variety of roles in our teams. You could find yourself working across any of the sports we cover (and not just what you see on TV) but also with the teams responsible for content that’s shared across our digital and social media platforms.

Your skills
In order to find you the best match, we want to know what interest you, so tell us which sport(s) you’re passionate about and why? You’ll be enthusiastic, passionate and creative; really making the most of this experience.

Sky Sports - Soccer AM - Osterley

Interested in sports production? Fancy helping behind the scenes of Soccer AM? Then apply for our work experience.

Sky Sports is the home of live sport. We aim to entertain and inform our viewers with our award winning and innovative coverage of live sport from around the world. This work experience places you in the Soccer AM team.

Duration: 4 days

Please note that this work experience opportunity will be Wednesday – Saturday, so you get to see the show being filmed live.

Location: Osterley, west London

Requirements: You must be 18 or over and have a keen interest in and good understanding of football, but it’s not essential to be a Soccer AM viewer.

About the programme

Our work experience will help you see a show from start to finish; the planning, the shoot, editing and going to air. You’ll work with sports-mad teams who are both passionate about and brilliant at what they do.

You might find yourself researching guests, logging football games, helping out on Soccer AM gag shoots, collecting props, helping the runners, help set up studio for show day, sit in on script meeting and rehearsals, sitting in edit or collecting guests. Every week is different and that’s one of the reasons it’s so exciting.

We’re looking for enthusiastic, passionate and creative people who will put everything into the experience and therefore get so much out of it.

Sky Sports News - Osterley

During your time with us, you’ll be exposed to all aspects of our news gathering and production processes, everything from writing scripts to shadowing one of our top reporters.

Duration: 2 weeks

Location: Osterley, west London

About the programme

At Sky Sports News, we pride ourselves on being the first for breaking sports news, and we have the best production teams in the business. Our 24-hour news operation ensures that content is shared fast and accurately across our range of platforms – TV, mobile, online and iPad.

Your key responsibilities

We’re looking for the very best undergraduate and postgraduate journalism students to join us for up to two weeks’ work experience. During your time with us, you’ll be exposed to all aspects of our news gathering and production processes, everything from writing scripts to shadowing one of our top reporters.

Your skills

To be considered, you’ll need to be currently studying for (not graduated in) an NCTJ or a BJTC accredited course. You’ll be 18 years or older and be able to write or be working towards 100 words per minute shorthand. Above all, you must have an undeniable passion for sports and be able to deliver brilliant work.
