Whether you’re still at school, studying at university or have graduated, there’s an ideal opportunity at Sky. Some are a day, most are one or two weeks. Work Experience is a great way to give a job a go and gain skills and experience along the way.

Broadcast Services deliver a world class entertainment experience for our customers when they are at home, online or on the move.

TV Operations

Work experience in Broadcast Operations will provide you with an opportunity to rotate around our four key areas - Broadcast Delivery Planning, Live Content Delivery, Playout and Broadcast Platforms.

About the programme

We develop, support and manage all the applications that are used to schedule and broadcast our content – whether that goes out via satellite, online or our ‘On Demand’ platform.

We’re looking for candidates with good communication skills coupled with an analytical and inquisitive mind to troubleshoot and resolve problems in a live broadcast environment, and most importantly a passion for excellence.

TV Operations deliver the content to our customers and ensure quality of delivery and experience, this is very different to production so if you’re interested in content production or want to be a presenter this is not the experience for you.

About the programme

Every time you see an advert on one of Sky’s channels or sites (on TV, online or on the go), in an advert break it’s because we put it there – we created the opportunity, sold the airtime space and made it happen. We take the commercial from a brand, and put it in a break where it’ll be seen by the audience they are targeting.

Sky Media represents all of Sky’s channels and sites including Sky Sports, Sky News, Sky 1, Sky Atlantic etc. and also sells on behalf of a range of channels including Channel 5, Discovery, National Geographic, Comedy Central and many more.

We began as the UK’s first 24-hour television news channel and now we are a multi-platform news operation delivering content to smartphones, web, tablets, social media platforms and commercial radio stations – as well as on television. 

This is your chance to spend time at the heart of the most exciting news organisation in the country and experience what it’s like to work in a fast-paced news environment alongside our award-winning team of journalists. 

As we have an ongoing commitment to improving the diversity of our newsroom to better reflect our audience, for this scheme we will be welcoming applications from people whose backgrounds are currently under represented at Sky News.

Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years old or over.

Its competitive – we get hundreds of applications for these highly valued places so you need to convince us that you’re serious about a career in journalism. 

If you get a place you could spend time in one of many different areas from TV news production and our digital teams to Sky News Radio, to the team creating content for our mobile apps. Our placements are very hands-on, so you’ll get the chance to work at the cutting edge of a 24 hour news operation.

The placement is un-waged but successful applicants will receive £15 a day towards travel and expenses.

Sky Creative

Sky Creative is an award winning, highly creative, busy and exciting department that combines On-air Promo, Design & Graphics, Interactive and Print departments all in one.

Duration: 1 week
Requirements: We are looking for budding artists, designers, film makers, digital gurus, or those who are just generally creative with a basic knowledge of and interest in the latest graphics software. You must have a pro-active attitude and be aged 18 and over.

We’re offering a two day work shadowing opportunity so you can see first-hand what the job of a make-up artist at Sky involves.

Duration: 2 days
Requirements: 18+ and you must have completed or be studying a relevant media make-up course and demonstrate a specific interest in make-up for TV.

Sky Entertainment is a highly creative, busy and exciting department, covering a wide range of areas – Commissioning, Acquisitions, Network Planning, Movies Production and Music to name a few.  We pride ourselves on being one of the best entertainment sectors in the media industry. Requirements: You must be at least 16 years old and have an interest in the business behind television

About the programme

This is your chance to spend time amongst some of the most talented teams in the industry, experiencing what it’s like to work in a fast paced environment.  Working as part of the teams, you will get first-hand experience on how programmes are commissioned, as well as gaining an insight into all aspects of the teams.
