Join in on the real action

Nothing happens on-screen without the talented people behind the scenes, working their magic every day. Join Sky as a graduate and you’ll have a job you love to talk about. So, what are you waiting for?

Software Engineering

Create products used by millions, using cutting-edge tech. Work on our flagship projects – Sky Q, NOW, Digital Platforms, our global streaming platforms and Sky Mobile.

Software Engineering graduate programme – Brentwood - closed

This graduate programme is now closed for applications for our 2023 intake. To register your interest for September 2024 and onwards, click here and we’ll keep you updated.

Did you know we had 3 different software graduate programmes? With so much tech at Sky – Sky Glass, Sky Go, NOW, Sky Q (the list goes on) it’s no surprise that it can be hard to specialise from the get-go. So, we’ve simplified it for everyone, into one single programme.

If you want to be a software developer, automated tester or even specialise in a specific field of expertise in the future, then this programme is the one for you. Be behind the wheel and steer your software career in the direction you want, using our structured programme and endless tech opportunities. Working at the Brentwood office means that you will be working in a truly global operation working day-by-day alongside our teams at Comcast and Europe.

What you’ll be doing

Our accelerated 7-month programme starts everyone in a dedicated 5-week bootcamp aimed at giving you all the functional training to get started. You’ll cover learning to create clean, well-structured and efficient code, agile delivery, continuous build and integration, security principles for software development, test driven development and much more.

Afterwards, we’ll move into educational projects where you will partake in a 4-6 week C training course run by one of senior engineers, and then undertake a piece of product delivery that have real life implications alongside our experts. You will be working on our cutting edge projects and technologies such as Sky Glass and streaming technologies, or maybe new WIFI features on our new range of routers. Project development is typically in Linux and embedded C with support scripts in Python, PHP, bash, whatever is needed. If you don’t know C, no worries as our intensive C training course will quickly bring you up to speed.

We’ll then add in additional training based on where your interest lies to pump you up; ready to move into a delivery team where you’ll continue your career as an Associate Developer or Tester.

Could you be in the team behind the next iteration of Sky Glass? Or Sky Go? Whatever your project, you’ll be in the driving seat from day one. Make an impact and get all the support you need to start your career. There’s only one place you’ll see action like this – and that’s Sky.

What we look for content

At Sky, we look for people who can rise to the challenge and quickly focus on finding a solution. People who are always striving for simpler, smarter, faster and better ways of working. Whether that’s explaining complicated things simply and confidently. Being able to draw meaningful insights from a set of complex data. Or staying ahead of the curve by keeping up with the latest technological advances and applying them at work.

People here aren’t afraid to work hard. They know that to be brilliant, they need to push themselves constantly to achieve more. They can adapt in fast-paced environments. And they enjoy being kept on their toes by working on a variety of tasks. They’re driven by their genuine passion. Working towards our purpose and values to give customers more of what they love. And no-one does it alone. Working here means being part of a team that looks for opportunities to collaborate and support colleagues to deliver the best results. So, if you’re someone who constantly seeks opportunities to learn from your experiences and the people around you, then a career at Sky could be right for you.

Want to learn more about yourself, practice some example exercises and hear from some of our current graduates and apprentices? Why not try out our Preparation Hub? Discover your values, the type of work you may be suited to and your preferred learning styles.

What to expect when you apply

Preparation Hub
Want to learn more about yourself, practice some example exercises and hear from some of our current graduates and apprentices? Why not try out our Preparation Hub?
This dedicated practice zone will give you an insight into what our assessment process is like. You’ll have an opportunity to try:

  • A generic job simulation with tasks that you could experience in your early careers role
  • Numerical, verbal and critical reasoning questions
  • A trial virtual interview
  • An immersive assessment with scenarios that reflect what could happen at Sky.

What’s more, you’ll discover your values, the type of work you may be suited to and your preferred learning styles.

You can register for the Preparation Hub before you even make an application with us and use it as many times as you like.

Please note this does not contribute to your formal application.

Application form

This is the easy part. Simply submit your application on our system. We’ll be asking for your personal details, academic information and anything else that you think would be relevant such as work experience. That’s all there is to it.

If you need any adjustments for any stage of the process, make sure to let us know when you apply and one of our team will be in touch to discuss.

Digital assessments

As part of the application process, you’ll complete our immersive digital assessments. One of these assessments will include a video interview.

If you’re applying for any of our Finance, Data Science or Software Engineering programmes, we’ll also be assessing specific skills. For Finance, we’ll ask you to complete a numerical reasoning test. For Software Engineering and Data Science, you’ll take part in additional digital assessment where you can show us your coding skills.

Ready to go? Here are some hints and tips to get you started:

  • Find somewhere quiet where you won’t get distracted
  • It might help to turn off your phone or keep it on silent
  • Open a new browser window or close any tabs you aren’t currently using
  • Have a pen, some paper and calculator to hand
  • Get camera ready. Make sure you’re in a tidy, well-lit space with good internet connection. And of course, test your audio and webcam to check that they’re working fine. We’ll give you some more instructions to help you get set up
  • To get you in the swing of things, you’ll get some time to practice recording your answers. Make the most of this so you’re ready for your final take
  • We know it might feel a little strange but try and treat the video interview like you would any interview. Dress comfortably, smile and keep focussed on the camera
  • And finally, we’re excited to get to know you. Be yourself. Always provide answers that best represent you and what you would do in a given situation.

Why not pop onto our dedicated Prep hub to familiarise yourself with some of these digital assessments before completing them.

You’ll also have the opportunity to practice each of these assessments beforehand, so please read our email instructions carefully. We’ve added some tips to help you along the way.

Assessment centre

For the final assessment stage, we’ll invite you to our bespoke virtual assessment centre. You’ll get the opportunity to impress us in person and get a feel for what it’s really like to work at Sky.

It’s normal to be nervous but we’re on hand to help you along the way. To prepare, do your research about Sky and come ready to demonstrate your skills and passion. Think about what’s motivated you to apply to work here. We’re keen to hear more about you.

The day could include an individual interview, group discussion or individual exercise. We’ll give you plenty of notice and let you know how best to prepare for these activities. And while it may seem obvious, make sure you plan your time ahead of the day.

Once you’ve completed your assessment day, we’ll let you know when you can expect to hear back from us.
