Ambitious graduate looking to launch a career in content or production? We work closely with Creative Access to offer placements to groups who are typically underrepresented in the industry.

On a Creative Access placement, you’ll spend 12 months with us, learning and immersing yourself in the areas you choose. You’ll work alongside talented colleagues, building your own skills and experience, and laying the foundations for an exciting career.

In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll experience two six-month placements as an Automation Directors assistant and Multi-skilled operator. These placements may involve potential travel and a variety of shift patterns.

Automation Directors assistant

The Directors assistant collaborates with many roles across Sky; assisting the director in a fast-paced environment to create award winning live sports and sports news programming. The role is studio based at Osterley in an automated gallery as well as being expected to work in traditional galleries with opportunities of travel and work on outside broadcasts.

Multi-skilled operator

Primarily working from the Sky Sports News Studio in Osterley, their team also cover floor manager roles in other studios on the campus, as well as on location for sports outside broadcasts.

Within this role, you’ll quickly be trained in the practical and theoretical aspects of cameras, lighting and floor managing; this will mostly be done in a live broadcast environment with plenty of hands-on experience. In addition, you’ll learn about studio etiquette, the importance of working as a team and building good relationships with their clients, health & safety, and the operational aspects of the show formats that we work on. The skills and experience gained in this role will give a solid foundation as you progress within your career in television.

Based in Sky Osterley you will work with the Sky Sports teams that produce live footage, highlights, analysis and features that are published to the Sky Sports App, skysports.com, Sky Q, Sky Go and their social channels on the major platforms.

Junior assistant producer

Work with the Sky Sports team that deliver some of the UK and Ireland’s most popular live sports content. Based in Sky Osterley you’ll work in a team covering one of the following areas – Football, Cricket, Golf, F1, or Multi Sports.

Premier League, EFL, SPFL and International football, cricket, boxing, F1, golf, rugby, darts, netball or many more, you could be working across all of these sports.

Based in Sky Osterley you will work with the Sky Sports social team that publish live action, highlights, analysis and features as well as live shows that are published to their social channels on the major platforms.

Junior assistant producer

Work with the Sky Sports team that deliver some of the UK and Ireland’s most popular live sports content. Based in Sky Osterley you will work in a team covering one of the following areas – Football, Cricket, Golf, F1, or Multi Sports.

In return, you’ll get to experience the thrill that comes with breaking big news stories, and the chance to work with an experienced team of journalists to develop your own skills – writing, producing and pitching content of your own.

This programme offers you the chance to join the experts at Sky News. You will learn how to deliver high quality coverage of news stories across our 24-hour multi-platform news operation. Get the inside scoop on our editorial process. Develop your researching, writing and editing skills. Work alongside their talented teams to create original and exciting content.

News changes quickly, they know about 50-60% of what they’re going to do every day, and the rest is a total mystery – so every day will be different.

In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll choose two six-month placements with either the Digital, audio and podcasting or TV production teams.

Learn how to compile the news – from planning, research and writing to the finished piece of content. Your role will include coming up with imaginative ideas for stories and contributors to help give Sky News the edge. Hone your writing skills for digital and broadcast and take this opportunity to work alongside some of the best digital, audio and TV producers and reports in the country.

This programme offers you the chance to join the experts at Sky Studios, as Production operations assistant & Operations assistant. The operations team look after all systems, processes, projects and wider business elements that support its Editorial, Production and Commercial teams. They manage the end to end traffic of Sky Studios’ in-house productions and commissions, their stakes in multiple leading production companies in the UK and US.

The Production Operations team support the in-house Production arm who produce original content for Sky. Production Operations ensure the business of production runs smoothly across systems, processes and compliance, working hand in hand with the in-house production management team to deliver fantastic content to customers.

In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll have a 6-month placement in each department as Production operations assistant and Operation assistant.

Production operations assistant

Working closely with the creative and finance teams, you will assist with the planning, running and administration of new in-house productions and broader operational requirements.

Operations assistant

Sitting at the heart of the Sky Studios operations, your role will be to support the end-to-end workflow of Sky Studios Group Scripted and Non-scripted commissioned or in-house productions.

Editorial assistant & Production assistant - Closed

This programme offers you the chance to join the experts at Sky Studios’ drama and comedy editorial departments as both an Editorial assistant and Production assistant.

With an ambition to more than double our investment in original content by 2024, Sky Studios funds, develops, commissions, and produces original drama, comedy and documentary for Sky’s 24 million customers and beyond. You’ll probably know some of our shows from the global smash hit Gangs of London to the critically acclaimed I Hate Suzie; from fan favourites like Brassic to one-off specials like Roald & Beatrix.

Learn how Sky Studios create innovative and exciting stories from script to screen to entertain our customers on Sky Max and Sky Atlantic. Working alongside our talented editorial teams, you will have an insight into how shows are developed, produced, delivered on time and budget and then distributed.

In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll experience two six-month placements with the Drama and Comedy Teams as Editorial assistant and Production assistant.

Editorial assistant

Working closely with the Development and Editorial Teams in a dynamic environment, you will learn about the commissioning process and how shows are submitted, developed, produced and delivered to Sky. You will also gain insight into the importance of the editorial briefs and what makes a Sky show stand out from the rest. In this role you will also help provide administrative support to the Sky [Drama/Comedy] teams working closely with the Commissioning Editors and Production Execs.

Production assistant

Working closely with the Production Management Teams in a fast-moving environment, you’ll learn how a production needs to be supported by the broadcaster.  You’ll help to implement Sky Steps to Greenlight and understand all the phases of the production process from prep through post-production to delivery.

You’ll gain insight and understanding of how and why the team interact and communicate with the wider business to get shows made i.e. legal, business affairs, finance, distribution, music, compliance, marketing, social, press/pr and delivery.

Your role will be to work alongside the coordinators providing administrative support to the Sky Drama/Comedy production teams, working closely with the Production Execs, developing your skills to enable you to read and understand schedules, callsheets, progress reports, budgets, talent trackers, post-production delivery paperwork and key Sky protocols (eg. Environmental Sustainability guidelines).

UK Content

“People who love TV and the information that powers it.”

UK Content is the business side of TV, where data is used to decide what content should be made next. A placement on this team will help you understand how we make sure Sky customers are getting the content they want. The opportunities are huge – you could be reading scripts, testing out cast and crew or conducting analysis on whether a second series of a show should be commissioned – so if you’re interested in content, but aren’t sure exactly where you want your career to take you, this could be the placement for you.

Their portfolio also includes Sky’s world leading home film service, Sky Cinema and Sky’s own children programming in Sky Kids, as well as Sky’s free to air portfolio.

In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll experience two six-month placements.

Commissioning assistant 

(Factual, Entertainment and Arts, Sky Kids)

In this role you’ll learn all about the commissioning process from pitch to broadcast. How to conduct research into potential ideas, talent, and opportunities for broadcast. You’ll liaise with independent production companies, other Sky departments and production services to assist in the commissioning process. Get the opportunity to develop and contribute to the commissioning strategy and much more.

Production operations assistant 

Working alongside the Production Operations team, you’ll be responsible for ensuring delivery paperwork for Non-Scripted and Kids Originals is complete and correct alongside the Rights Management and Music team, using Silvermouse (training will be provided for this software). You’ll be “the face” of Sky when liaising with Sky’s independent production companies and see the end to end process of commissioning from the Broadcasters perspective. Your role will support the wider team by providing additional support to help respond to ad hoc media and clip requests as well as look after edit requests for commissioners, senior management, PR and Marketing and more.

Client services trainee & Operations trainee

Advance your career in TV or film career through this placement alongside the team engaging with clients who work with Sky Studios Elstree. In this Creative Access 12-month programme, you’ll experience two six-month placements.

Client services trainee

Reporting into the Client Services Director and the Commercial Director, as the Client services trainee you will be part of the team that is the primary point of contact for clients coming into the Sky Studios Elstree.

The focus will be on providing administrative support across all departmental areas, gaining an in-depth understanding of the requirements and expectations that HETV and Feature Film productions have when shooting at a world class Studio facility.

Operations trainee

Reporting into the Operations Team and the Operations Director, as the Operations trainee you will be part of the team that manages the day-to-day production activity at the Studios.

Runners 

Senior runner

Working as a flexible resource in support of all departments across Sky Studios Elstree, the runners team has a critical role to play in ensuring that Studio users have a first class production experience whilst working at Sky Studios Elstree.

As a senior runner, you’ll spend 6 months within the Client Services team and 6 months in the Operations team and will be a key liaison point between the running team, production reps and operations, facilities and productions.

You’ll be coordinating team runners to ensure the provision of first-class customer service to support the clients working at Sky Studios Elstree. This role supports a wide breadth of teams across the site such as Production reps, Operations, Front of House and more with activities such as taking calls, calendar maintenance, meeting and recce coordination. Other activities include supporting in the setting up and clearing down of client areas before and after occupation such as dressing rooms, make-up, wardrobe and more.

You’ll have lots of support during your Creative Access placement. As well as the support of your team and your manager, you’ll be given a Creative Access buddy to give you a helping hand and guide you through all things Sky. We’ll also invite you to events where you’ll meet people on other Early Careers placements and Creative Access will be on hand with masterclasses and training opportunities.

Our support doesn’t end there. You’ll be invited to join an online community to help you connect with other graduates. We’ve also got an Emerging Talent community setup to support early talent in Sky. They host regular events and talks on topics important to young people starting their career journeys.

We’ll send out regular feedback surveys and host roundtable discussions aimed at supporting you in our growing business.

It’s normal to be nervous but we’re on hand to help you along the way. To prepare, do your research about Sky and come ready to demonstrate your skills and passion. Think about what’s motivated you to apply to work here. We’re keen to hear more about you.

The day could include an individual interview, group discussions or individual exercises. We’ll give you plenty of notice and let you know how best to prepare for these activities. And while it may seem obvious, make sure you plan your day ahead of time.

Once you’ve completed your assessment day, we’ll let you know when you can expect to hear back from us.
