Thousands of engineers globally are shaping this platform, and our Prague tech hub is a key part of that effort. But we don’t just keep the engine running—we push the tech boundaries of what’s possible, alongside teams from Lisbon, London, and New York. Here in Prague, we have teams specializing in frontend development (including mobile, TV, and web), backend development (Java), DevOps & Platform Engineering, AWS, and data science.
What is the plot?
We are looking for a Solution Architect to join Global Commerce and help drive improvements and new features on our global platform. This role strikes a balance between strategic architecture and detailed solution design.
Our department provides the identity platform used across the global streaming platform, along with the payment, product and subscription management systems (Sales), and customer relationship and account management systems (Service). We do this at huge scale: for over 50 million customers globally, spanning NBCUniversal Peacock in the US and Sky, NOW, SkyShowtime across Europe, and Showmax in Africa. No matter the device, the time or the place, we make sure that our diverse audiences can easily find and enjoy whatever they want to watch, choosing from the world’s best entertainment, news and sport.
What role will you play?
As a Solution Architect you’ll be at the heart of defining world-class systems for Sky. You will provide architectural expertise and relevant technical experience, enabling the delivery of strategic solutions that support the wider platform direction. We will rely on your robust architectural foundation and the capability to collaborate across geographies (Prague, Lisbon, UK). You will collaborate early with product and analysts to identify real requirements, design solutions with pros and cons, and work with engineering and delivery teams to refine and communicate detailed designs, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of estimates.
Your daily tasks:
Working with product owners, analysts, security and principal engineers to understand the functional and non-functional requirements and business needs.
Define innovative end-to-end solution designs for products for those requirements while meeting the strategic technology aims of the business.
Ensure solution designs are clearly communicated to engineering teams allowing them to be refined, estimated and delivered.
Assist delivery teams to implement the overall solution architecture, adjusting it as needed in the face of changes to the proposition through to product launch.
Support the principal engineers to ensure the team delivers simple solutions.
Evangelising the architectural principles and solution roadmaps to bring consistency and best practice across the platform.
Making good decisions about when to invest in building solutions ourselves, when to buy off-the-shelf and when to partner with 3rd parties.
Collaborate with architects across Global Commerce and the wider Global Streaming business.
Architecting new solutions, solving new problems with the existing microservices, working with many different scrum teams.
What skills do you need to play your role well?
Experience with Microservices, integration, synchronous and asynchronous patterns and RESTful APIs.
Experience with NOSQL/Java/Containers and cloud deployment at scale.
Experience with resiliency and security patterns.
Experience with Identity domain.
Broad technical experience with a high understanding of modern architecture patterns and practices, especially within high-scale service-oriented platforms.
Ability to make well-considered, pragmatic design decisions, and present your architecture to the wider department
Demonstrable track record in the design and delivery of leading-edge strategic business solutions from concept through implementation.
Ability to clearly define and document technical solutions.
An enthusiasm and aptitude for learning new skills and practices, constantly keeping up with the latest developments in the relevant field.
Demonstrates exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, working with business and technical stakeholders.
