In the six months since our Prague office opened, it has built strong connections with other Sky locations, and so far, it’s been an incredible journey to be part of Sky. As we continue to welcome new team members, the office is taking shape, and our teams and roles are becoming more defined. We're fortunate to have experienced leaders guiding us through this process.
In this post, we’re sharing insights from a short interview with Karel Zatloukal, Head of Business Operations in Prague. Karel reflects on his experience at Sky and his passion for building strong, collaborative teams.
What does Sky mean to you?
For me, Sky represents the opportunity to tackle technical challenges that you won’t find elsewhere, like scaling a platform for millions of concurrent users—all while working with a group of friends and having fun while doing it.
How do you feel about working at our Prague office?
We’re building a site for a successful, large company, and it’s a rare chance to be part of something really big. Being here from the very beginning and shaping it is incredibly exciting.
How interconnected is the Prague office with the other Sky sites?
We are part of the global technology team, which is located predominantly in London, Lisbon, New York, and Prague. The teams are intertwined, we cooperate with people in the remote locations on daily basis. At the same time, we often have a local team having a responsibility for a specific software component. We combine the best of the local team with its own responsibility, and cooperation with remote teams on large projects.
Are you growing the teams at the moment?
We grow a lot and will continue growing in the coming years. I am proud of the recruitment team, which is full of energy and brings in a strong pipeline of great talent. We get unsolicited feedback from the candidates that our interview process is quick and professional. The brand awareness of Sky as a Czech IT employer improved, as we can hear from the candidates. The amount of accepted job offers per month is increasing. All that gives me a warm feeling that we do the right things.
What kind of colleagues are you looking for?
My passion is building great teams, and I’m looking for people who care. I value those with a curious mindset and a results-driven approach. If you want to learn and be part of a great team, I’d love to see you join us.
The Prague team will be moving to a brand-new office soon. Can you reveal more about the location and the space?
From the start, we have aimed to be an attractive employer, and the office location plays a big role in how convenient it is for people to go to work, meet in person, and collaborate. I firmly believe that in-person collaboration gives people energy, helps them work across team boundaries, and fosters better innovation.
We put a lot of energy – and money – to have office in a prime location at the AFI Karlín (Butterfly), Pernerova 42. To ensure our office is top-notch, we hired the renowned architectural design studio Perspektiv to create a space that provides a productive workspace and a cozy atmosphere.
All of this is part of our commitment to offering a comfortable, high-end office where people enjoy coming to work, collaborating, and having fun together. Great teams tend to hang out together even after business hours, and Karlin makes it easy to go for an informal tea, coffee or a few beers after work.
