Describe the recruitment, interview and on-boarding process: I applied for this position via LinkedIn. I got the news via email that I was considered for an interview. I then had a quick chat with recruiter Darren Smyth before interviewing with the hiring manager Alix Vavasseur. I was living in New Zealand during the interview process so Alix kindly offered to interview me via Skype. After being successful in the first interview with Alix. She invited me to the second interview where I would so a present to Alix and her colleague Aoife. I was then invited to have a chat with the Head of the CVM team, Orlaith. Darren called me soon after that and offered me the job. I started less than a month later. I met Alix on my return to Ireland and started a week later. Alix organised a team lunch on my first day. I really appreciate it as it was a great way to get to know my colleagues. I’m absolutely loving everything about the role. I feel very lucky to be part of such an incredible team.
What were your first impressions of the team and company culture? The team is extremely passionate about what they do and very personable. The energy was palpable and I knew immediately that I was lucky to be part of the CVM team.
What’s your career journey been like up until now? I started my marketing career in a very busy marketing team at a recruitment company in the heart of Dublin. I spent two years learning the tricks of the trade from social media marketing to event planning. I then moved to New Zealand where I spent some time at an NGO as their events coordinator. I moved agency side where I learned everything from relationship management to complex direct marketing and retention campaign. An opportunity arose with one of my clients and I moved client side to take up the role of Marketing Manager in an insurance company. When my contract was finish there, I then moved on to the fast paced telecommunications industry. I worked on base management for our mobile customers, keeping them posted of the latest and greatest devices. I’m delighted to bring my experience back to Irish shores. Now I’m here and I’m very excited to be part of the CVM team.
If you were considering jobs with other companies at the time what made you choose your next career step with Sky? The calibre of the people working here. The skills I would learn here. It’s exciting to play a role in a successful global company based in Ireland.
Now that you’re settled in a little, what are you most looking forward to / aspirations? Helping the business to achieve and surpass company targets and goals. I’m also looking forward to bring the best entertainment offers to our customers.
What have you been most impressed with so far? The people! Everyone is excellent in their role and always willing to share their knowledge.
What does a typical day working here look like for you? A day here goes by in the blink of an eye, time flies when you’re having fun and learning lots. My day will vary depending on the types of projects I’m working on. It will always consist of chatting to lots of people from various teams, project meetings, and at the moment learning all about our awesome products.
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? Go for gold! Aim high and figure out the steps to get to your dream job. It may not be a clear direct path but with the right attitude and enthusiasm you’ll get there. Always find a mentor in your jobs, people you can learn from and help you to reach your full potential.
