From Sales Advisor to Head of Sales Operations, Del shares his journey with us.
“We’re constantly looking for ways to give our customers the best possible experience, but it’s not all work, our team are super friendly and like to spend quality time together”
Name: Del Donaldson
Job title: Head of Sales Operations
What area of Sky do you work in and what do you do on a daily basis? I work within our sales department and I’m responsible for our Contact Centres in Newcastle and Falkirk, leading our sales teams. Our sales teams sell our fantastic range of products and services, and are responsible for retaining our existing customers. It’s my job to ensure they’re equipped to speak to our customers about the amazing products, services and value we’re able to offer them.
How did you get into your role? I joined nearly 15 years ago as a Sales Advisor and have been in a number of different roles since. I enjoy being in the thick of the action, leading and developing people, so my current role is perfectly suited to me.
How have you made a difference in your role / what’s been your proudest moment working here? I’m really proud of how we delivered the launch of our newest product, Sky Mobile. A lot of hard work went in before launch and along the way we’ve had to adapt to change and build momentum and the team managed this brilliantly. The results have been great too; we’ve seen sales performance double in just six months and have had exceptional feedback from our customers on their experience. I’m proud to have been a part of it.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job? I get a buzz from seeing those that I work with achieve and develop, empowering our people to push themselves and support others is really satisfying. There isn’t a standard week here, so being adaptable and achieving targets gives me a real sense of achievement.
Describe your contact centre or area of the business - what makes it a great place to work? Our Contact Centres are vibrant, fun and engaging. We always have lots of great activities happening throughout the week. Our teams work really hard to make the Centre a great place to be. We’re constantly looking for ways to give our customers the best possible experience, but it’s not all work, our team are super friendly and like to spend quality time together.
Have you had the opportunity to progress in your role? What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? I certainly have, it’s been a journey to say the least, over the last 15 years. I’ve taken on roles in Scotland, England and India over that time and it’s been a hugely rewarding experience both personally and professionally. My biggest piece of advice would be to learn to act without fear of failure, learn when you do, but never be afraid to fail. Don’t let doubt that you can do something stop you from giving it your best shot.
An interesting fact no one else knows about you: I have the freedom of Southampton city as granted to me by the Mayor.
