What did Ella enjoy about her marketing work experience?
"I really enjoy working on the creative that is used throughout our department."
How long have you been working at Sky?
What area do you work in?
Trading – Referrals Team.
Describe a typical day.
Every morning the first thing I do is check over my emails that have come in late the prior evening and early that morning. I generally meet with my managers as well everyday to go through what we have coming up in the week and what each of our workloads is looking like at the moment. We are always working on the current offers whilst also planning for the next quarter, this can include reviewing creative, organising our marketing channels and daily/weekly reporting. Each day I come to work and there’s something different to work on, its fast paced in this team and I think that’s partly why I like it so much.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your role and what has surprised you the most?
I really enjoy working on the creative that is used throughout our department, I’m always running over to Sky Works (our creative team) with something new, its quite rewarding taking a concept or idea and seeing it printed as a DM. in terms of what has surprised me the most I think its how much I’ve learnt, when I first started I definitely had a sinking feeling that I would never pick anything up, but I am slowly starting to get there and am feeling more confident with my knowledge of our department each week.
What’s the coolest thing you’ve done at Sky?
We had an out of office day a few weeks ago covering what the Trading team’s goals are and how we performed in the last quarter which was really interesting, at the end of the day we got taught how to ride Swegways which was really fun!
What's your top application tip for people applying now?
You don’t need to be an expert in what you are applying for – that’s what the Apprenticeship is for. I think a lot of people think that to apply or have a chance of being considered for a role you need to have a lot of knowledge in the field of the role which I don’t think is the case, I think it’s less about what you know and more about your skills and mainly attitude for Sky, so accentuate those in your application.
An interesting fact about you that no one else knows?
I swam as part of a relay triathlon in September but did really awful and won’t be doing it again!
