Ella Garvey
Job title
Business Administration Apprenticeship
What does your apprenticeship involve?
I work within the Billing department based in Watermark. I am currently placed in the Number Port Team who are responsible for landline and mobile to make sure that the customers number port is successful, and any issues are resolved.
What has been the highlight of your apprenticeship?
I have been lucky enough to network with lots of different people at Sky and through that made many friends. One of my highlights of the apprenticeship was doing the sky life Instagram takeover. We got the opportunity to take over the Instagram page for a day to give an insight on what its like to be an apprentice in Sky.
What has been most rewarding project/ experience you’ve been involved in?
When Sky launched Sky Glass there was a large volume of refunds that had to be processed manually. From November- January I worked as part of a team to get these volumes down. Although it was stressful at times it was rewarding as we were able to help thousands of customers receive their refunds on time.
Would you recommend doing an apprenticeship at Sky?
I would 100% recommend this apprenticeship scheme to anyone. It is a great way to start a career in a well-established business and also gives you the opportunity to gain experience in different teams within the business.
How has this apprenticeship helped your career?
During my apprenticeship so far, I have worked within 3 different teams. This has allowed me to see different parts of the billing department and how it works. Rotating every three months has kept me on my toes and forced me to adapt quickly. I have gained confidence in myself as I now know I can cope with picking up new systems and tasks quickly.
How are you supported in your development?
There is support in all aspects of the apprenticeship. We are given a learning day once a week to allow us to do our work to the highest standard. We have support from the college 7 days a week to gain assistance on tasks and general questions. Both management and fellow employees will check in and make sure you are never struggling. Within my team I am given extra notes that will help me work independently.
What advice would you give to someone applying?
Don’t be afraid to be yourself. It can be daunting applying for a job in a large well-established business but have confidence in yourself and what you could bring to this position. Also, ask lots of questions, no question is a silly one.
