Why did you decide to join Sky?
I joined Sky as a graduate, and I’m still here today five years down the line, because I feel that Sky has great career progression and it allows you to move further in your career. It gives you those opportunities at the right time.
That’s one of the main reasons why I feel that Sky is a really wonderful place to work.
What does a day in the life look like for you?
My day starts off with a stand-up with the team; where we discuss the projects that we’ve been working on in the previous day, if we’ve had any blockers and if, anyone can help us unblock them.
And then, because I’m an Analyst, I begin working on low-level designs that can be used by the developers and the testers to do their development.
I often give playbacks and explain the process that I have put together in the low-level design.
Why do you think Sky is a great place to work?
Why Sky is a great place to work? It’s because we’re always using the latest technology. Right now, we’re using the Google Cloud platform to manage our data. That is one of the leading cloud tools in the market, which is fantastic, and we get the opportunity to work very closely using those tools.
Secondly, I have a seven-month old baby, and Sky offers such great flexibility that I can actually come back to work. As a Woman in technology, it can be really hard to come back to work after having a child – but here I am, seven months down the line and I am happy and working flexibly. Sky offers that for all their colleagues, which is another reason why Sky is a fantastic place to work.
What’s the best thing about working for Sky?
Every time there’s a product release, we feel very much involved. Staff are always the first people to get their hands on these products, and we get to play around with them and test them – it’s just fantastic.
Sometimes, the work we do might not directly feel like it’s directly impacting Sky as a company – but when you’re involved in these things, you feel like Sky is more than a work place; it brings on a sense of unity between the colleagues; whether you’re selling on the marketing side or whether you’re working on the data side, like me.
