My Sky Connect Experience
From embracing a start-up mentality to establishing a brand-new team, hear from Leon Olisa, Head of Service Operations at Sky Connect, on his experiences so far.
Leon Olisa
Head of Service Operations
I joined Sky in 2016 , working as a Sales Manager in the Digital Retention Team, a brand-new contact centre in Stockport, just outside of Manchester. We were responsible for engaging with customers digitally and ensuring they remained in love with our business. Our amazing team and I quickly grew the department from a small group of talented and committed individuals to a workforce of over 300 people. Shortly after this I was fortunate enough to progress in my role and become Head of the Department.
Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to work all over the world with Sky, including managing a contact centre in Mumbai, as well as a stint in beautiful Northern Ireland.
I now work for Sky Connect, Sky’s new B2B telecoms arm, as their Head of Service Operations and have embraced the new challenge.
I’m privileged to be managing a team of around 50 business service leaders, operations managers and business service executives, based in our contact centre in Leeds. Our team has a breadth of talent and expertise but predominately focus on ensuring that the customer’s Sky Connect journey, post sale, is a successful one.
Small businesses right now are going through some critical challenges as a result of the pandemic, and I’ve found it really rewarding working for a company that wants to make sure they’ve got the tools and products they need to bounce back from a difficult time.
I joined Sky Connect in 2020, before the business had officially launched, and I love that it still has a ‘start up’ feel. Everyone who works here is a stakeholder and an integral decision-maker. We’ve all played a part in building the foundations of the business and we want to do what’s best to drive the company forward.
My role is definitely fast-paced and anyone who joins the team needs to come with a level of resilience. You have to spin multiple plates and each member of my team has specific areas of responsibility, regardless of what level they are at. But this is an experience you just can’t pay for – everyone has an opportunity to help build and grow the business.
There are also huge opportunities for career progression here. Operationally, this time next year my team’s headcount will have doubled. Alongside secondments and development positions, working at Sky Connect means that your career can grow and develop exponentially.
