Jennifer’s career so far as a Home Service Engineer
‘Home Service means meeting our customers and spending quality time with them.’

Jennifer Breislin
Home Service Engineer
Why did you decide to join the Home Service Trainee Programme?
I joined the Women in Home Service Trainee Programme because the first thing that caught my eye was that it was tailored towards Women, and getting Women into a role that is usually presumed to be done by a man.
Another reason was because I’d just come out of university and needed to start opening my eyes to the world of work.
What does working in Home Service mean to you?
Home Service to me means meeting our customers and spending quality time with them, to ensure I am delivering the best experience I can.
Whether I’m going to someone’s house for a brand new install, or servicing a customers box that they’ve had for 20 years – every job and every customer experience is different. To be able to meet them and help them with something people take for granted is rewarding to me.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
The most exciting thing is getting to the job, you never know why you’re going to arrive to. Even though we get a brief description of the job there is always more to think about and expect.
Another exciting thing is all the opportunities that we can get from Sky. I’ve just recently done my first Time to Care delivery and it was so nice to do something different with my day that I knew was a good thing to be doing. Helping out with our supported charity Age UK is something I definitely want to do more in the future.
What has been your biggest career achievement so far at Sky?
My biggest achievement was probably getting the permanent job after the three months of training!
It was so nerve racking after doing 3 months of work. It wasn’t something that I thought I’d push myself to stick through either and I proved myself wrong.
What training and support have you had in your role?
The support in the team is fantastic. If I’m ever stuck on a job I always know I can call someone and get the help I need over the phone. I love my team and they’re genuinely lovely and caring.
Even if I need an on-site second opinion from someone, no engineer has hesitated to come and help me. They’ve been so patient with me.
What is the biggest benefit of working in Home Service?
The biggest benefit is definitely the perks that Sky give us; the van, all the equipment, support, TV, etc. It’s all such a great part of working for the company, because it makes me feel appreciated for the work I’m doing, rather than just being seen as someone who comes to work for the day and finishes.
What makes me feel proud is doing a job that I found difficult and challenging, and being able to get out of leaving a customer happy .
