Life in Broadcast Content Compliance
‘We’re fun, loud, exciting and forward thinking.’
What is life like in the Content Compliance team?
My name is Isabelle Weerawardana-Odusanwo, and at Sky I’m a Content Compliance Executive. We ensure that all the content that goes out on all our platforms adheres to the OFCOM rules and regulations, as well as our own internal Sky policies.
So basically… we watch TV all day, read scripts and go to records to make sure everything’s A-OK.
We work on acquired and commissioned content, sports, promos, trailers, online and kid’s stuff. I love doing shows that get me into the thick of it. A League Of Their Own, the festivals, and most recently the BAFTA award-winning Life & Rhymes. It brought together two of my greatest loves; spoken word and TV, but I do love working on the more complex and contentious documentaries and dramas.
The content that we work on on any given day is so diverse. I have a part to play in getting that content to our customers. Most people when they think about compliance, they probably think about stuffy spoilsports with like clipboards waiting to find fault with everything, but that is like the total opposite of who we are and what we are about. We’re fun, we’re loud, we’re exciting, we’re forward thinking. And we’re busy… like so, so busy!
We work together, we ask questions, we help each other out. We’re all very different people, with different personalities and skills working on completely different projects most times. All working together towards the same goal, and when it comes together, the finished product is kind of like a symphony!
The manager is understanding, supportive and encouraging. The team accepts you as you are and sees differences something to be embraced I can be myself, like confused idioms and all. And I’m honestly thankful to be working with such an awesome bunch of people.
