Meet Home Service Engineer Sophie
‘I always like to leave a happy, bubbly piece of me with every customer.’

Sophie Shaw
DTV Home Service Engineer
What does working in Home Service mean to you?
Home Service means providing a professional and friendly service to all of our customers . Customers have expectations and going into different homes, meeting different people, representing our brand is a very proud thing for me.
As an engineer, I get to showcase what brilliant service Sky can provide, and how we actually care about our customers. Working in Home Service means going the extra mile for anybody I may meet in my working day. I always like to leave a happy, bubbly piece of me with every customer I possibly can – so they think “Wow, what a brilliant company Sky is.”
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
The most exciting thing about my role is the whole process; starting a complete fresh installation, to the customer having the end product – and knowing that I’ve installed the whole system from scratch makes me so excited and proud.
Secondly having the privilege to drive around and see so many different places. Every day is so different – that’s what’s so exciting; not knowing what your day will bring.
Are you made to feel included in your team?
My team are brilliant. The best thing is that I’m never alone. There are always team members on the end of the phone if I ever need anything.
We all pull together to make sure every team member gets home on time. I have made some great friends.
What has been your biggest career achievement so far at Sky?
The biggest career achievement for me is becoming a successful engineer. When I look back from the very beginning, to where I am today – it makes me smile so much.
I remember my first ever day out in the field and I remember thinking I have no idea what is going on right now. I didn’t know what anything was – and just the job in general looked very difficult. I never used any power tools or carried ladders before. With this I used every day as a learning curve and challenged myself to achieve a new skill every week.
As time went by the weeks became easier. Before I knew it, I was getting well in the stride of learning how to become a Home Service Engineer. Sometimes I felt like there were barriers in the way of me progressing, for example; carrying the ladders wasn’t easy to begin with.
However, as long as you have strength, courage and are very determined – I promise that barrier will no longer exist. It’s a massive achievement, and you feel like you can start to break down any barrier that’s you feel stands in your way.
I felt day by day my confidence was building. It takes time, but as long as you give the right attitude you will succeed. This is why I smile every day I go to work. I love my job Sky, it’s has helped me achieve so much.
What makes you feel most proud in your job?
I feel so proud being a Woman in engineering. The amount of females that stop me when I’m out working and say “It’s so amazing to see a female out in the engineering world” – this makes me so proud of what I do, not only for myself, but woman as a whole.
