Nimrat’s work experience in Sky News
‘You are looked after and made to feel a part of the family.’
As someone who sees a future as a correspondent, I was given the incredible chance to speak face-to-face with correspondents and observe daytime programming to get a real insight into a world that I very much want to be a part of.
My week was jam-packed with tasks and activities, there really was never a dull moment! Everyone was eager to help and explain their role in the newsroom, which made each day interesting as I was learning something new everyday.
I think the reason why I enjoyed my work experience at Sky so much was truly because of the people. There is a strong sense of community at Sky, where you are looked after and made to feel a part of the family.
I even got the chance to roam the Sky premises, which boasts several restaurants, a gym, ice-skating rink and cinema – there was always something to do. It was also useful that before the experience started, we were given a short friendly induction in order to help us navigate around Sky and meet our fellow work experience colleagues.
I am someone who is interested in news and programming, so being able to sit in the gallery and watch the director was an extremely useful experience. I also see a future in presenting and was able to go and talk to presenters about their role – a great learning moment for me.
My time at Sky was unforgettable and I would love to come back and experience it all again. It was truly a privilege to be part of a network that encourages opportunity and has pushed me to take the necessary steps to further my career.
