“Working in NOW TV has its perks”, says Neal
‘An added benefit is being able to talk about what you do with friends/family and have them actually care and find it interesting.’

Job title
Senior Group Strategy Manager
What area of Sky do you work in?
NOW TV
What’s your career journey been like up until now?
I started my career as a generalist Strategy Consultant and gradually found myself drawn to more media and technology focussed work. I then moved to a global TV production company working across Strategy and Corporate Development with an international remit, including a spell in Los Angeles. I now find myself in the Group Strategy team where I have worked across a few big and exciting projects like the Premier League auction and currently sit in an embedded role within the NOW TV business.
What does a typical day working here look like for you?
A cliché but there isn’t a typical working day as the work is so varied. One day you might be focused on building a business case to justify new investment in a product/service while another day you are attending focus groups to research customer feedback on a new feature. It is that range of work that I love and keeps me interested.
If you’ve been here over one year, how have you made a difference in your role?
Coming here from a content production background I have been able to share my experiences/learnings from that world which I like to think have been welcome input! It is great that that the Strategy team has such a diverse range of backgrounds from which all the team can benefit from.
What’s been your proudest moment since working here?
I worked on the Premier League rights auction for the better part of a year and seeing something flow through from the initial briefing of the work to seeing the successful outcome for the business was exciting and something I am very proud of.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job?
I love TV and being able to work in something that I inherently enjoy is great. Seeing strategies through to practical and tangible outcomes is the part of the job I like best. An added benefit is being able to talk about what you do with friends/family and have them actually care and find it interesting!
Describe your work/life balance?
I have the flexibility I need to manage my work around other commitments and can always find the time to be on the football pitch every week after work.
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career?
I would say to keep pushing yourself out of our comfort zone and move around even if it looks like a sideways move – breadth of experience is incredibly valuable. More generally, work hard, listen to feedback and use it to grow and evolve. Finally, it is the people you work with that makes all the difference so try and surround yourself with those who will challenge you and help you to grow.
