“The people make everyday fun” says Katherine
‘The most important thing that makes me want to get out of bed and turn up to work is the people I’m coming in to work with.’
How long have you worked at Sky?
How many roles have you had since you’ve been at Sky?
What’s your top tip or advice for someone looking to develop their career?
Harbouring a natural interest in IT has always made my work life easier, and I try to demonstrate this in any way that I can. There are lots of simple things you can do which go a long way to helping your career. Offer help to people, learn from your team and others outside of your team, get out and speak to people around the organisation/ industry to understand what they do and how we can all help each other. Be confident in yourself and your abilities and you’ll find opportunities will present themselves.
What’s the best thing about working at Sky?
There are several great things about working here. Firstly the people and the office environment make coming to work everyday fun. Also the location – I work in the Brick Lane office and love being so close to central London. Then there’s the benefits package we receive as colleagues. I also admire the initiatives that the business does outside of its primary role, such as the Sky Ocean Rescue and the Sky Sports Scholarships, wherein the business supports budding athletes to fulfil their potential.
Do you have a long term career goal, if so can you tell us more about it or how it’s changed over time?
We live in an age where the world moves fast, and technology evolves at a rapid rate. I would like to think that my career evolves in line with this trend. I don’t set many long term goals and prefer to concentrate on learning more each day and making strong relationships in the industry; staying relevant is important in this digital age. I let this philosophy drive my career direction and enjoy every minute of it.
What motivates you at work?
The people I’m coming in to work with. This is more important in many ways than the work itself. I thrive in a working environment where colleagues are nice, fun and approachable and I feel that I am able to fully achieve my potential when working in such an environment.
