Andy shares top tips on career progression
‘Retail is like no other area of the business. I’d say it’s the most interesting area and, in some ways, the most challenging’
How did you get into your role?
When my previous manager left I was asked to step into the position and cover the role on a temporary basis. After being in the role for a year I was given the opportunity to interview for the position permanently, I was successful and 6 years on I’m still here enjoying the role.
How have you made a difference in your role / what’s been your proudest moment working here?
Getting the job was an incredibly proud moment for me as I worked my way up. Starting as a Sales Advisor has given me a great foundation for my current role, it’s also helped me understand the support my team need to be successful.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job?
I love working with my team and watching them be successful!
Describe your contact centre or area of the business – what makes it a great place to work?
Retail is like no other area of the business. I’d say it’s the most interesting area and, in some ways, the most challenging. Our Retail Advisors are tasked with talking to potential customers, out-and-about, about the great products and services we offer. There’s a real sense of achievement when you’re able to successfully offer a customer for a great package. Plus, the team are great to work with and the pay is excellent too.
Have you had the opportunity to progress in your role? What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career?
Yes, I joined as a Sales Advisor and then progressed to Store Manager and then into my current role as Area Sales Manager.
My advice would be, don’t be afraid to champion new ideas or initiatives in your area, or volunteer for extracurricular activities, as these things help you be recognised and considered for opportunities to progress in your role. I’d also say, be passionate about your role, our products and company. Having the right attitude and approach to your role will always get you noticed.
An interesting fact no one else knows about you:
I joined the army at a very early age and I was lucky enough to be part of the gymnastics display team, we were very successful and won some trophies!
