Sean’s about the celebrate 10 years in our Broadband Tech team

‘I’m about to celebrate my tenth year here…when I joined I knew it was my job for life’

Sean Lightfoot

Job title

Broadband Technical Specialist

Tell us a bit about your role – what’s your job title and what do you do at Sky?

My job title is Broadband Technical Specialist, I assist our customers with any broadband issues; this could be replacing equipment or improving their Wi-Fi coverage. I also like to think of myself as an agony aunt as I get to hear some really amazing and interesting stories. Some are amusing, others are heartbreaking, but I love that our customers feel comfortable enough to share their stories with me.

What were you doing before you joined?

I’m about to celebrate my tenth year here! I did a number of jobs before joining, from working in a factory to driving, but when I joined I knew it was my job for life.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love the variety, I never wake up dreading work. Meeting our customers and working as part of a great team means that no two days are the same. I also love seeing our customers faces when they see the difference you’ve made to their broadband or have helped them make a saving on their bill.

What’s your team like?

We are a mixed bunch. We live all across the North and North West of Wales, so there’s always a lot of football banter on match days. Between us, we have a number of years’ experience in broadband and home technology, and we’re great at sharing expertise within the team. If someone doesn’t know the answer to something or needs support we’re all ready to help.

What training and support have you received working here?

When I joined I went on a extensive training course on broadband troubleshooting which gave me what I needed to do the job. Since then, I’ve continued to receive support from my manager and peers.

So far, what’s been your biggest achievement here?

Applying to be a mentor and being chosen. I’m really enjoying supporting new members of the team.

A fun fact about you:

Many years ago on a family holiday we were playing olympics on the beach and as I went to attempt the long jump, I got the whole of the beach clapping along with me. Unfortunately, as I got to the line to jump I fell flat on my face, much to the amusement of my family and the 100+ people watching.
