Want to know what’s like doing a team rotation in HR? Etty shares her experience with us
“I now work as part of our VIP HR team, while previously I supported projects within People Communications, Employer Brand and Careers”
Job title: HR Graduate
What area of Sky do you work in? At the moment I work as part of our VIP HR team giving HR support to our on screen Talent and senior management team. Most grad programmes here have rotations within different areas. So as part of the programme I’ve previously worked in our Employee Experience team, supporting projects within People Comms, Employer Brand and Careers.
Describe a typical day in your current role… I try to start most days with a workout at the onsite gym. After that, my days are usually split between working on a couple of different change projects and handling HR support queries.
Describe your work/life balance at Sky? Work/life balance here is great. Mostly there is room for flexibility in my working hours and my manager has always been flexible when it comes to working from home etc. As part of my graduate programme, the company is supporting me towards achieving a Master’s degree and gaining CIPD qualification and have been extremely helpful when it comes to balancing full-time working and university.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your role and what surprised you most? The most enjoyable thing about my current role is the variety of different projects I get to work on. The biggest surprise for me as a grad was probably the amount of ownership on projects you get very early on – of course, the support is always there if you need it but you're given enough space to have your own impact on the work.
What is the best thing about working here? It’s an awesome workplace, with a friendly and dynamic working environment.
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? I guess being open minded to the opportunities that come along and developing your network, are two things which can really help.
