Sam's best careers advice is to just be yourself...

Sky Careers

Name:  Sam Traynor

Job title:  Customer Service Advisor

What area of Sky do you work in?  Customer Service, I specialise in Broadband and SkyQ TV tech.

What does supporting LGBT @Sky Network mean to you? I think our network is so important. There are many people within the business that are gay, lesbian, bi-sexual, trans etc. and it’s very important to have a support system in place if people do need it.

How are you supported to be yourself at work? I feel supported and personally, I think I’ve also been a support, it works both ways. The team and my other colleagues here have all accepted who I am and are so supportive.

What does a typical day working here look like for you?  I come into work and normally, with a few of my work mates we go down to the canteen grab some breakfast and just have general chat before we go up. I like how flexible it is here, everyone’s very good at helping me out when I have to make my gender clinic appointments.

What’s been your proudest moment since working here? My proudest moment was 100% when the Modern Apprentices travelled to London for our graduation to mark passing our apprenticeships.

What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job?  The best thing about my job is the people! I love my team and I get along with everyone which makes coming to work a pleasure.

What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? Firstly, I would say to just be yourself and secondly, get your head down and do the best you can at your job. It’s also very important to have a laugh while doing so.

An interesting fact/something no one else knows about you? I’m a part of a theatre group as I love panto. Loads of people don’t expect that of me. I love acting and being able to play another character and just be someone else for that short time.
