What area of Sky do you work in?  Sky Business – Field Sales

What’s your career journey been like up until now? Since leaving University I’ve been in a variety of roles within sales. From recruitment, internal sales to field sales, I’ve worked in business sales and medical sales prior to my current role.

What does a typical day working here look like for you? My days are similar in terms of the structure. I always try to have as many meeting in my diary as possible for the upcoming day, say a minimum of eight meetings or visits per day. I meet landlords, committee members, business owners; a variety of different people every day to discuss their business and how Sky Sports might fit into it.

How have you made a difference in your role? I’ve worked here for 14 months now. Following thorough training and days out in trade with experienced Business Development Executives (BDEs) I try to do things following the steps I’ve been taught. However, once you are on your own, you start to understand what works best for you and you begin to shape the role accordingly.

What’s been your proudest moment since working here? I’d say that being part of a great sales team and meeting up at sports venues around the UK is something that makes me feel proud to be a part of.

What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job? I love the freedom of managing my own diary. I choose where to go and I am trusted to work the best way that suits me and works best in terms of sales.

What do you most look forward to? I really enjoy the buzz each day of going out and selling our great products to licensed premises – especially the sites that the owner doesn’t think they would want it, but it ends up working really well for them. In addition to this, there’s some great incentives to work towards. Since I started we’ve had trips to New York, Miami, Dubai and Las Vegas and chances to win tickets to events like Premier League games and rugby matches. The culture and work ethic of the business is fast-paced but it makes you want to do really well and overachieve. 

Describe your work/life balance? To start with I worked more than I was advised, but once you find out what works best you go with that. I might work late some evening and have some early meetings, but equally I might leave a little later or finish earlier. It really depends on if and when I do the work I need to.

What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career? I’m at the early stages of my career here but I’d suggest that consistency is important and is something I try to achieve every day.
